Planetary Lovers: On Annie Sprinkle and Beth Stephens’ Art and Activism. Other Globes. Past and Peripheral Imaginations of the Globe, 2019.

Annie Sprinkle and Beth Stephens’s “sexecology” is a multi-year art and activist project that presents the earth as lover. I provide a close reading of this work with a special focus on the documentary Water Makes Us Wet—An Ecosexual Adventure (2017). I suggest that while Sprinkle and Stephens complicate the trope of Mother Earth, they rely on a problematic notion of partnership between humans and the planet.
